Comment To be fair... (Score 1) 172

To be fair there have been quite a few climate deniers over the last few decades who were quite educated people.
Unfortunately many people (even educated ones) have a hard time trusting the statements of experts unless they can touch/hear/see/feel the results themselves. And to fundamentally understand climate change you have to understand the data and not rely on "how cold it feels this winter day". Many people are just inherently distrusting of highly educated and specialized experts, and politicians and corporations have helped fuel that distrust.

Yes, there are many devices that will accurately measure heart rate, but a camera staring at your face is not one of them.
Blood flow to the skin changes for several reasons, including food/alcohol that they consume, or the temperature in the room, or the amount of moisture on the skin. That's assuming that your camera is even good enough to detect such changes. On top of that many people who play chess are very good at concealing their emotions and reactions.

Comment Universities are not meritocracies (Score 1) 448

Universities want a diverse array of students with a diverse array of interests. This means that they want students who speak different languages, not just Chinese. They want students who will major in many different fields, not just computer science and pre-med. They want the student body to look like and have experiences like those of the whole country or the whole world, not just East Asia.
This may shock you, but the point of a university is not just to admit those who score highest on standardized tests.

Comment Of course lockdowns and masks work. (Score 1) 289

Of course lockdowns work. If you do not interact with other people how can one get a transmissible disease? Through the internet? Why do places with strong lockdowns, like New Zealand, have such low COVID rates?
If masks do not work, why do dentists and doctors wear them? Do you want your doctor operating on you without wearing a mask? Have at that one.
If masks and lockdowns do not work, why have recent flu rates been so much lower?
I don't think you are very smart.

1. Everytime I use Zelle, it asks me, do you really know this person?, and I say yes, because I do not send money to people whose email addresses or phone numbers I do not know.
2. When I send Zelle $ through my phone, I do it via my browser on my bank's web site, not a stupid app. The browser does not save my password.
So far I have no concerns about getting scammed.

"Russian propaganda" has not just been a "go-to smear", it has been well and extensively documented that Russia uses a huge number of fake accounts on social media, and a lot of people have been eating that propaganda up.
Also the links between Trump and Russia are extensive. They have purchased a lot of his properties and funneled a lot of money to him.
The fact that you are trying whitewash these facts tells me that your account may also be a Russian one.

How's the weather in St. Petersburg, Mr. Troll?
"Along the border of Ukraine" is a short way of saying "not on the border with China", "not on the border with Mongolia", "not on the border with Kazakhstan", "not on the border with Finland", "not on the border with Belarus".
I don't need my gas lit, thx.
