Submission + - Loss of ice on Mt. Everest is "Devastating" 2

Simmeh writes: The BBC reports on new photos of the Himalayas taken from exactly the same position as ones from 1929 and compares the ice coverage. The Asia Society who did the groundwork are quoted as saying "If the present rate of melting continues, many of these glaciers will be severely diminished by the middle of this century.". I guess the previous claim wasn't too unrealistic.

It's not the cost of the disc at issue, its the significantly lower value of the product. The product value is determined by the buyer, and has no connection to the costs involved. A CD I can put in my PC and emulate one day. I can make copies of it. Its a "thing", with a (shrinking) booklet. It's WORM, rather than the nebulous "DLC".

UK Plc is getting into more debt just to pay the interest on the existing debt. There is a massive black hole in the finances for pensions etc. This parliament is focusing on removing that structural deficit. Debt should peak by 2014. Public sector spending has soared this past decade. Notably, duty on booze and cigs hasn't been increased, so consumers will continue to drink their sorrows away. It's a gutsy move, but I think consumer spending in the long term will remain steady.

While I need a desktop for many of the reasons mentioned above, my main reason is for *comfort*. The chair, the spacious desk with room for my legs, keyboard, wrist rest, mouse pad/rest, notepad, programming books, lamp, large perfectly positioned monitor/multi-mon etc. I imagine I'm not alone in finding good posture and setting essential for doing extended work, something I struggle with sat on the sofa. I have no need to sacrifice space to fit in a laptop when I have a perfectly good PC sat underneath my desk. (or above with the shuttle). I'm no laptop hater, and for anyone surfing the web they are ideal - but plenty of us (even non-geeks) find a desktop the better option.
