i think the big part of what /~Way+Smarter+Than+You is talking about is the other things like wic and food stamps. these services are year round. well for wic you get it for 6 months? or so after having a baby, but food stamps is usually much longer term. so you have all of the government people sitting there filling forms to determine eligibility that could all be eliminated, that cost transferred to UBI.

And i wish there were a real free-for-home-use version. yes yes i know about the stripped license you can run at home, and vmug.

Both have limitations.

Compare to citrix, proxmox or nutanix all have community editions with little or no limitations.

Think about MS from the win 9x - windows xp days, everyone had a key that floated around and were able to load it at home without to much trouble. While not technically free, its effectively the same thing. It part of why windows blew up. go look at Beos form the same time frame, or amiga, both i think were technically superior.

we have been in "recover" now for 12 years. thats what happens in recover.. people start to make more etc. but we are just barely back to 2008 levels. its taken more than a decade to recover from the 2008 housing bust. as far as the confidence, maybe they only polled people who were buying shit? go ask the people strolling walmart with like 3 things in their buggy how they feel. or go hang out at a plasma donation center and ask them how they feel. i bet you would get a different picture. or all of the people Trump has kicked off of food stamps, disability etc?
