Un pobre guey writes: Evidently the dismissal of Rick Waggoner from GM was a trial balloon. U.S. President Barack Obama today personally executed Jamie Dimon, 53, up to now CEO of notoriously illiquid J.P. Morgan, and Kenneth Lewis, erstwhile CEO of zombie institution Bank of America. Obama used an antique 9mm Beretta automatic he received recently as a private gift from Russian President Dmitry Medvedev. 'It grieves me deeply that a standing President of the United States must engage in such drastic action in order to convince wealthy and influential business executives that destroying the US economy in order to receive a year end bonus is undesirable behavior,' said the president moments after the executions. 'Nevertheless, I shall immediately cap the ass of any individual who insists on betraying our nation and our people in order to enrich and aggrandize themselves.' The executions took place in quick succession as the victims stood on stage with the president at a press conference in London just one day before the scheduled G20 meeting
maxume writes: The Justice Department has decided to stop pursuing the case against former Alaska Senator Ted Stevens. Sentencing in the case had been delayed by allegations that prosecutors concealed evidence from the defense. Attorney General Eric Holder has issued a statement saying "I have determined that it is in the interest of justice to dismiss the indictment and not proceed with a new trial."

$20,000/100 Days = $200 dollars, day.
$200/24 hours = $8.33/hour.
Some people really need to do the math before going "OMG THATS A GREAT REWARD" >>
Kudos to those running the experiment. Cheap labor is great.
The Esparto, California fire chief says that several firefighters were on hand for the blast, but he didn't notify residents because, "Mythbusters is supposed to be a really popular show. Everybody would have been out there. We would have had to cancel it because it would have been too dangerous." Link to Original Source
alphadogg writes: Google engineers say it was not expensive and required only a small team of developers to enable all of the company's applications to support IPv6, a long-anticipated upgrade to the Internet's main communications protocol. "We can provide all Google services over IPv6," said Google network engineer Lorenzo Colitti during a panel discussion held in San Francisco Tuesday at a meeting of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Colitti said a "small, core team" spent 18 months enabling IPv6, from the initial network architecture and software engineering work, through a pilot phase, until Google over IPv6 was made publicly available. Google engineers worked on the IPv6 effort as a 20% project — meaning it was in addition to their regular work — from July 2007 until January 2009. Link to Original Source
olddotter writes: "The Wii nows supports playing games off of SDHC cards. There is a catch, though. "Note that when launching games or channels from an SD card, an equivalent amount of internal Wii memory is required. To clear space from the internal memory, users can transfer games or channels from the Wii Menu to the SD card."
Even with that issue the support is welcome for those that like the Wii platform."
Death Metal writes: "As if extra dimensions weren't strange enough, new research has probed an even more mind-bending possibility: that spacetime has dimensions that change depending on the scale, and the dimensions could have fractal properties on small scales."
waderoush writes: "After five years in development, a 6'6"-tall humanoid robot called the Battlefield Extraction-Assist Robot (BEAR) will be tested at Fort Benning, GA, starting next month. Built by Cambridge, MA-based Vecna Technologies, BEAR can carry loads of up to 500 pounds in its hydraulic arms and is designed primarily to transport wounded soldiers safely off the battlefield. It has treads with knee joints that will allow it to kneel, drive like a tank, and (eventually, with the addition of a stabilization system) walk upright. Skynet uplink not included."
E5Rebel writes: "Things seem to be going from bad to worse with the EU's Telecoms Package.
Now, not only do we have to contend with French attempts to push through its "three strikes and you're out" approach again, which the European Parliament threw out, but there are several other amendments that are being proposed that will effectively gut the Internet in Europe. The Open Rights Group is campaigning. We need your help.

An anonymous reader writes: United States based software mogul and billionaire, Charles Simonyi is set to board the International Space Station today to make history yet again, this time being the first space tourist to make the trip twice. Simonyi has paid a total of $60 million for the two space trips thus far but does not plan to make a third trip. During his 13-day mission Simonyi will help others on board the space station with research projects and also take part of live broadcasts with schools.
Death Metal writes: "Chief Security Engineer Andrea Barisani and hardware hacker Daniele Bianco used a handmade laser microphone device and a photo diode to measure the vibrations, software for analyzing the spectrograms of frequencies from different keystrokes, as well as technology to apply the data to a dictionary to try to guess the words. They used a technique called dynamic time warping that's typically used for speech recognition applications, to measure the similarity of signals.
Line-of-sight on the laptop is needed, but it works through a glass window, they said. Using an infrared laser would prevent a victim from knowing they were being spied on."
I still find it amazing that ISPs go along with thi....wait...we're talking about Comcast/Verizon here. Same people who used to throttle legitimate P2P traffic. I guess we can assume that if you're shut off for 3 months for downloading music, there will be a fee greater than the bill for 3 months of service you missed to reinstate your account.
