Comment Re:You get Heroku, RDS, Ruby and PostgreSQL....go. (Score 1) 108

I actually agree, however context matters. We run a small business, and the security and compliance offerings. also, managed certificates and platform updates are a very nice bonus. all things considered, its just a matter of time. Is it worth my time to manually go install platform updates, check certificates all the time, monitor logs, and all the other routine things. I'd absolutely love to have a large enough budget to include having dedicated people managing all of those things, and i could have a guy or girl in that role constantly getting burnout and not feeling like they were learning anything new, so going to a PaaS over IaaS is a good deal.

the word 'known' matters in science. just because many interstellar objects have ended up on earth does NOT mean we can identify them retroactively. a 'known' sample is something that we can use to define markers that may be unique to our system or maybe give us insight that we can't foresee.

Comment Good, do it at a federal level. (Score 1) 112

I've got a friend who has an 8 year old child with ADHD. Seeing the manipulative crap that comes up in that kid's 'recommended' feed disgusts me. I know what an algorithm is, and this gaslighting jackass is probably just hoping that all tech-literate people hate the idea of any kind of regulation. If fighting to prevent regulation in technology got us where we are today, i don't want to be on that side anymore.
