Now, let's pick this as a starting point for the spontaneous generation of the "value of the Apple boxes". Most comments are about the fact that there is resale value so the 2nd buyer buys with the box thinking of selling with the box and so on.

Joking aside- I've kept my MacBook and iMac boxes but not because of the box itself but the padding/packaging INSIDE so that when I move I have something made specifically to hold those two tightly without breaking instead of using blankets, generic styrofoam pieces etc.

My iPhone(s) and iPad? Pfff tossed right outside the neighbor's trash can. You know, I don't want to make robbers think my house has those items ;)

Hm, no I don't live in corporate USA though I'm trying to figure out which part of the free world you live. Care to share? Just curious. I live in Brazil so I'm not sure if you deem it as free or not. Not that I care that much.

I think I had made myself clear when I said "Copyright and all that shit" suggesting I don't agree with copyright legislation they way it is pretty much everywhere and the "YMMV" sort of implies that my point of software license isn't true all the time. I'm sorry if I haven't shouted or something to bring my point out

Regarding company liability- as it is with anything legal it's always not 100% true or false but you can think about the Sony Rootkit CDs which, well, made them liable for the software it installed doing unexpected things in people's hardware. You don't need to agree with me neither counter it, I'm simply suggesting that as one example where the route can be taken the other way around.

Now, to best part of your arguments, which is name calling. Might I suggest you avoid that? It doesn't add anything to anybody or the discussion. Sure you had your point - which is valid, I agree, though there are specifics. I don't think most companies that allow mods to happen are happy if people start making money out of it OR take their money because of it.
But when you name call, your argument is lost because you found someone who disagrees with you

But hey, at least you imply iyou have independent thoughts!

Not true. YMMV but consider that most likely what you bought is a license to run the software (not the software itself) therefore the software in question - and the data - are still owned by the company that sold you the license. Copyright and all that shit

Capcom goes a long way to this with DLC characters in their fighting game that are bundled with the disc but you have to pay to have that data already present unlocked. As sad as it is, it's not illegal for them to do that neither is legal for you to hack and make it available just because you have the data in a device you own.

You know what the best alternative is? Pay the extra or don't pay from the beginning. Simple as that.

not exactly a woosh moment in my dictionary but I can live with that. OTOH, knowing how much money you have at the time is not exactly an absolute truth:
sure you can see how much you have in hand right now, but as you said, there are pending payments and whatnot so even if you do have that amount in your hands it may not mean that's what you have to spend.

unless you determine yourself that any money in your wallet=any spend than yes but then it's just as you said- context

Pretty much every fucking thing that matters. Check here.

Please stop saying that even the 3GS gets upgrades. At most it gets security updates which I agree it's good, but upgrades? No fucking way.

Once, back in high school, during an art class I had to make a sculpture out of clay.

Turns out I know squat about sculpting and the best I could do was maybe two spheres pinned together with a toothpick or a cube. I just said "whatever", put them all together and started pinching it. It turned out something similar to, well, a pile of crap.

When the teacher approached and asked what it represented I playfully said "The agony of all the kids with no food" and chuckled. I got an A for that. I've proved that any crap can pass as art.

tl;dr: (some) art is a pile of crap.

We agree at that point. They could have implemented it right (as in, the new form) and keeping the name of the function "Save As..." or at least "Save a Copy".

"Save a version" and "Duplicate" confuses people. I guess that's how they came up with names to replace "Branch" in both cases, lol

Comment Re:Save As = Duplicate? (Score 2) 658

Let me stop you right there. I don't like it either but you're not being very receptive.

Think of it this way: You're working on your form letter template, adjusting signature, header, common text etc. You don't need to worry about saving the document because the document exists and all versions of it as well. You are to forget you need to save - hard, I know. But when you think about it, why the hell should we be worrying about saving a document?

Now, you need to create one letter from your template. Cool, you want it to be saved differently so you'd save as - but then again, saving is a process you don't need so they named it Duplicate. Here is the issue, whan you actually duplicate it freaking creates a new windows with a copy and keep the damn original version open! This is not intuitive.

That's what they fixed. Duplicating now actually will ask you to save the file differently and not create a new window. Truth be told, I'm taking this out of my ass because I might have imagined reading it.

Finally, I believe we finally reached a point in consumer computing where shit happens before you needing to intervene. We may discuss all about saving or not but seriously, why the hell have we gone all these years having to do something that the computer should be doing all along? Is the same shit as AI and context language interpretation.
