An anonymous reader writes: The AP reports Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, aided by an extraordinary outpouring of Internet support Monday, hauled in more than $4.2 million in nearly 24 hours

The $4.2 million represented online contributions from more than 37,000 donors. Paul as of Monday had raised more than $7 million since Oct. 1, more than half his goal of $12 million by the end of the year, according to his Web site.

Paul advocates limited government and low taxes like other Republicans, but he stands alone as the only GOP presidential candidate opposed to the Iraq war. He also has opposed Bush administration security measures that he says encroach on civil liberties.

BinaryPower writes: Yesterday was an exciting day to be a Ron Paul supporter. The online grassroots campaign "this November 5th" organized a $4.2 Million Money Bomb on the candidate running for president with over $4 million of which raised online. This surpassed the largest online fundraising in a single day to a primary candidate of $2.7 million. This goes to show the organizational power of the internet.

In one day (Nov. 5th) — Ron Paul has raised over $4,200,000.00 — mostly by online direct donations from over 37,000 individual donors. (These are not "pledges" — it is "money in the bank.")

Paul's total deposed Mitt Romney as the all-time single-day fundraising record holder in the Republican presidential field.
