Comment Re: Tipping point (Score 1) 356

Rapidly accelerating climate change does suggest a moral obligation too reduce emissions for the sake of our kids - and theirs - is a good starting point. I have two EVs. They cost me closer to zero to power thanks to solar on my roof. They are already cheaper than gas cars...and almost zero maintenance because they are much simpler and more reliable electric motor with no exhaust system needed.

Comment Yes. It's happening. (Score 1) 356

I own two electric cars. I mostly power them with electricity produced by the solar on my roof. Two Tesla Powerwalls store power for our dark hours use and to add 50-100km to a car at night, if we need to. Last month my total house electric bill and transport bill for two EVs was $11. Electric will win simply because it's cheaper. Irs already cheaper to own now. Soon, it will be cheaper to buy, too. Game over for fossil fuels. Sell those shares now while they are still worth something.

Comment Re: On EV's... (Score 1) 314

I've been driving EVs for almost 5 years. A car like the Tesla Model 3 LR doesn't have a "charging problem". It can drive further on a charge than is safe for anyone to drive without a rest stop. My current car is an MG ZS EV. It goes as far as I need it to go (160 miles / 240km) and I mainly charge it for free from solar on my roof. I can quickly to up it's liquid-battery at a fast charger if I need to go further. There is no charging problem. Gas cars have a serious running costs problem. EVs are already far cheaper to operate for people with a daily commute of 10 to 100 miles. Further than that and you're living in the wrong place.

It's always "worth" recycling them if we stopped allowing the full cost to be externalized and left for someone else to pick up the tab. Much of our industry isn't remotely sustainable. Let's just accept that and mandate mitigation of the full costs and subsidize it where it's essential to get industry up to the scale where it's at least cost neutral or close.

Comment Re: Landfill technology (Score 1) 270

China has caught on to the fact it's cheaper to recycle than to mine. They are busy cornering the global lithium recycling market. They already own most of the mining market... Having seen that change coming a decade ago. Yet again, their long term thinking leaves "efficient" capitalists far behind.

Comment Remdesivir is next to useless (Score 1) 391

Remdesivir at best reduces hospital recovery time by a third IF you begin taking it early.....and why would you take it early if you don't even know you have it? Or how would you get tested and obtain Remdesivir and take it BEFORE you were hospitalised? It doesn't add up. Plus, Remdesivir has zero affect on mortality. This is another Trump placebo that costs millions if not billions.
