Comment Re:500 cycles, doesn’t Sell me anything. (Score 2) 73

"It's asking a *lot* for the industry to go back and declare '500 cycles is good enough'. It might be a slam dunk if a typical battery replacement job goes down to under $1,000 as a result, but I don't see if they'd expect it to be *that* much cheaper."

This is all complete nonsense. First, no one is "asking" for some garbage straw man. Second, what does "go back and declare" mean? Go back to what? Third, what does 500 cycles even mean? Do you know? What is the lifetime range of a vehicle? And how much range does a single cover? It varies all over the place and your argument relies on no one understanding any of that.

And neither NMC nor LFP "typically" get any such thing...or maybe they do...because you have no definition of a "cycle". 15% capacity loss, or whatever defines "500 cycles" doesn't mean the battery ceases to be useful, it only describes rate of degradation. If you want slower degradation, don't used chemistries optimized for density that degrade faster. If you want fewer cycles to last a lifetime, use a larger battery. You demonstrate NO understanding of any of this, either that or you argue in bad faith.

"If it's a PHEV, then every day would be a cycle in that average case."

False. The post you responded to claims daily driving of 50 miles/day. That is true. Given your naive, absurd argument, there is no PHEV sold, or ever sold, with a functional lifetime of even two years. Is there a person in the world that would believe you?

An average golf course uses 200M gallons PER YEAR, so you are off by two orders of magnitude.

"Golf courses and growing alfalfa in a desert should be much higher on the chopping block for water use."

There's a whole lot of data missing to support this argument and what little you provided is grossly, even comically, in error.

LOL, by free you mean by being paid by the US government, then selectively blocking the service when it harms Russia and then giving Russia access.

It may have a positive impact, especially from your point of view, but that doesn't mean Musk intends that result. Musk is doing it because he wants to own it, not because he wants to eliminate it. Musk felt entitled to be named CEO of OpenAI and has held a grudge since.

There is the old joke from The Onion about Bill Gates: https://www.theonion.com/bill-...

This is now Elon Musk (and a few others, of course). Elon Musk gets half. “Everyone must contribute to my half,” Musk said. “Any number, no matter how small, can be divided into two halves, one of which will be mine.”

What damages has Musk suffered as a result of these alleged violations? What standing does he have?
