Because overloading all concerns to "climate change" is constantly used to try and drum up support for things like the green new deal, even though the effect of the green new deal on, in this example, the water level of the great salt lake would be minimal and way in the future. So it's a dishonest sleight of hand.
Yes, climate change may have long term impacts on the water levels of the southwest, but there are several items affecting water levels of the southwest that are orders of magnitude more important on this particular issue. If we're going to talk about water issues, focus on solutions to those water issues than on a different problem with different solutions that is only slightly related.
