You sound defeated. No wonder you can't get a gig. Learn about S-Corp and LLC. Lots of folks are doing it. I'm learning about it and plan to go that way by the end of the year. It's all about perception: At my last perm job before getting laid off I'm sure the CIO walked through the datacenter, saw my gray hair, and thought "Look at this old, expensive overhead. Fast forward to today, when I walk into a Datacenter in a nice suit as a consultant the CIO takes one look and thinks "This guy has been around, he is going to get it done".

You are 90% there. You have described the problem now all you need to do is solve it. Truncate your resume to the last 15 yrs. Get some Grecian Formula, drink strong coffee before interviews, go to the gym, stop forgetting to take your Abilify. When I was laid off 2 yrs ago first thing I did was shave off the graying moustache and lose 15lbs (easy to do with no cash flow). I picked up 3 vendor certs in 6 months and frame interviews as a social engineering opportunity. I'm making 20-25% more than I was when I was laid off because I was "expensive overhead". It's really all about attitude...You have to man up even though you get kicked in the balls 3-4 times a day.

We have a lot of hidden costs associated with illegal immigration. What is the current cost of a glass of O.J. if you factor in the welfare, crime, and all of the negatives associated with illegal immigration. Not to mention that these costs will be compounded in the future because of the high birthrate of illegals. It may be that we would be better off paying more for the food. Remember, agribusiness is like any other corporation, they privatize profits and socialize costs. If we are going to have immigration we need to skim the best and brightest of the rest of the world, not the opposite.

It's not violence, it's anti-competitive. This is an example of the things corporations do to maintain the status quo. I have signed non-competes before and don't give them another thought as I have no intention of abiding by hem or letting a former employer know where I am going for my next gig.

Maybe you live in an ethnically/culturally homogeneous place. In the U.S. this "give us your huddled masses" bullshit has left us with a polyglot rabble and NO sense of community. On top of that add the "me first" individualism that everyone wants to adopt. When it hits the fan don't mess with me, one of my weapons is belt fed.

In 10 years I may regret posting this non-anonymously but the previous poster hit upon something I have been thinking about recently (in an abstract way!). Good people, loyal corporate drones at the end of their ropes after being on the wrong side of our winner take all system, finally lose it and act out in a spontaneous manner. The end is usually suicide by cop or killing a cop or some other non-productive result. I certainly do not advocate doing this but it would interesting if people that have lost everything and want to end it all and simultaneously strike back began to aim for the head the snake instead of the tail. It's unlikely due to the way people seem to suddenly crack but it seems a few days of research and a little road trip might make a an exponentially bigger statement without a corresponding increase in effort. Or maybe that amount of effort isn't required. Maybe publishing a dossier of the executives listing their addresses, time lines of their daily movements, pictures of them on the golf course might serve to moderate their behavior. Or maybe we will just get martial law earlier than otherwise... Again, I am not an advocate of this type of thing for moral reasons, I do not want blood on my hands, or the dystopia that would be sure to follow.

That make sense to me, Everyone/everyplace already has POTS so it makes sense to take advantage of the existing infrastructure. And while they are at it lets get some decent bandwidth out of it. Say symmetrical 100Mb at least. This would let us save the bandwidth for other purposes.

It looks like the requirements are quite demanding, even for 2010. I would expect multiple mishaps before it reaches production status. As a side note: MILSPEC RFP's are generally quite aggressive and challenge the "state of the art" and requires correct operation in all conceivable environmental conditions. This accounts in part for the expense of military equipment.
