Comment more details? (Score 1) 32

I searched but didn't find any explanation of how this would work for the non-physics major, can anyone explain more?

I was assuming that it would deal with the gravity strength over a spot but since there can be lots of stuff under the ground it would a mapping of the differences between granite and just plain dirt (if there is such a thing as 'dirt' at lower depths).

Slight correction - Costco parted ways with American Express not MasterCard.

I think that AE made a mistake with that but it's the old -- not _enough_ profit as if any profit from something like Costco wouldn't add up.

It's open but not free unless a small subset of pictures that are pixelated is what you want but the sad part is now they have your picture and maybe even a name or ip address or something.

I was hoping for a GitHub project that would be crowd sourced like open maps.

It did occur to me that Google was genius when they gave away their photo application and let you 'tag' your photos, I imagine that data made facial recognition a lot easier for them (see captchas).

Comment Analysts Suck (Score 1) 73

I have the SE2 and was going to probably get the 13 mini if it also supported fingerprint unlock. (yes I'm that ugly).

However this is probably the only time I'm hoping that Apple ignores the Analysts and for once keeps bringing out a small phone. I have no idea if they will since they do a lot of (IMHO) stupid stuff (like killed the 11" air).

Of course the competition will follow Apples lead so maybe we'll have some decent small Android phones in the future.

(and yes I know that the copy the competition goes both ways, it took forever for iphones to get waterproof capabilities - and even that is suspect - https://www.cnet.com/news/how-...)

Sacramento to San Francisco is a brutal 2+ hour drive. More like 3 unless you are talking really early or really late.

It's amazing how hard of a drive it is.

But I have to admit that the train is really nice and if I'm not hauling stuff I would do the train any day of the week.
