The Impact of Music Downloads and P2P File-Sharing on the Purchase of Music: A Study for Industry Canada

Description: Industry Canada undertook a music file sharing study during 2006-07 to measure the extent to which music downloads over peer-to-peer file sharing networks, for which the sound recording industry receives no remuneration, affect music purchasing activity in Canada. The data used for this analysis are from a Decima Research survey conducted between April and June, 2006, on behalf of Industry Canada. The report, prepared by University of London researchers, Birgitte Andersen and Marion Frenz, found that music downloads have a positive effect on music purchases among Canadian downloaders but that there is no effect taken over the entire population aged 15 and over.

Comment Long summer breaks were for farmers (Score 1) 729

With very few people still living on farms it is now an anachronism.

Holidays are certainly needed, just not so long.

Perhaps a month off to allow people to vacation is a reasonable length.

We likely need to stagger those intervals of one month across the summer.
Otherwise too many families will be competing for the same vacation resources.

This has been the typical "disaster" that has been suffered by EVERY company who have built a successful business model based on Windows:
If it is profitable, then sooner, rather than later M$ WILL steal your business.
Ask Lotus, Borland, Word Perfect, Netscape, Corel, and so on how it felt.

Unfortunately I see little different with the case in Win8 than in any of the predecessors.
Steam are screwed.

It matters very little what you choose.
If it is not an apple product, the teachers will complain.
Their little souls have been bought and paid for by Apple a long time ago.

Seriously though, why not look at tablets?
Especially ones with keyboards, such as the ASUS Transformers?

If nothing else it will be a lot harder for the little hackers to modify and mess up for you.
