In places like Detroit or Washington DC or Baltimore City where legal gun ownership is basically non-existent, the huge amount of gun proliferation results in an armed criminal element and a disarmed citizenry.

I can't speak for the other cities, but there is nothing overly restrictive about the gun owenerships laws in Detroit or the state of Michigan. Open carry is allowed assuming the gun is registered and CCW is legal after taking the course and the background check. The people of Detroit do often keep guns in their house because they know the police are not going to show up in any reasonable amount of time, if at all.

Just because the city is a shit hole, don't assume the reason for that is one that fits your ideological bias.

What do you think this zombie shit is about? It went from 'crazy Haitian shit' to 'horror story' to 'social commentary on the human condition' and now, currently, 'acceptable social replacement for the mental imagery of shooting people you don't like.'

I think the current zombie trend is about venting all the accumulated fear of biological warfare that accumulated immediately after 9/11. Also some of the climate change or genetic engineering fear - notice the cause of the zombies is no longer Black Magic, Satanic or End of Days, but now biological. At least for the well adjusted folk.
And for the not so well adjusted, I have to agree there is the thrill of unfettered killing of 'the others'.

That was my first thought as well. I'm married to an incest and childhood rape survivor (and yes 'survivor' is the appropriate word here) and a lot of her therapy included extremely graphic written descriptions and drawings of the things that she went through. It brings it out into the open as something that really happened, rather than 'bad things happened, but we don't talk about'.
Who is to decided what the intent of any writing is? I'm sure some pedos would get off on her therapy art. Do we really want to jail people for getting better, rather than keeping it all in and self destructing? Just to keep a pedo from getting a boner and MAYBE doing something?

I've known for awhile that I'm getting my fix of 'false accomplishments' playing games. I've always enjoyed empire building games, but that has fallen off over the years as I'm getting into my 40s and wondering what the hell happened to my 30s? Plus the games today suck, but that's a get off my lawn sentiment.

Sometimes I just love killing zombies in L4D. I don't care about 'progressing' into the harder levels, I just want the thrill of killing zombies. OK, maybe I should strive for less than 5 friendly fire 'accidents' a game. Yeah that sounds like a good goal. Yeap I suck at multiplay, but I don't care -- I'm here to kill zombies.

Add Ogre3D, Irrlicht and Torque game engines to the list too.
I spent way too much time recreating their functionality in DirectX. It gave me an appreciation for the fundamental concepts of 3D graphics, but I spent months wrapping my head around it -- yes, I know I'm a dumb-ass, but it eventually clicked.
Now I work with Unity and Photon and am mostly happy.

Schooling and education were once considered important because they provided a way out of poverty. Now the government provides. Why bother with pointless chores like learning arithmetic?

Your ideas are intriguing to me and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter of empty rhetoric and angst filled superiority.

Voters get conned into voting for higher school budgets because they want better schools and higher property values, but the truth is much of the money is wasted. I voted against several school budgets that had over $1mil set aside for landscaping.

Indeed, students should be outside doing the landscaping themselves. Dual credits in PE and vocational training -ftw!
