It's already been done in Australia.
Didn't need Apple or Google. Apparently they are open sourcing the code. I would wait until the source is opened, was able to compile it myself and then sideload it. But that's just me.
My point though is that if it has already been done, why would you want or need it to be created again and then under a closed-source commercial regime?
If they actually gave a damn, why wouldn't they speed things up and use what is out there already?
Way back in the 1900s we had amazing things like computers, televisions, and phones that you could just carry around with you outside. Those phones had batteries that could last a week with normal usage.
Yeah, Yah, Yo so what great-grandpa?
We also had something called Windows ME or Millennial Edition....
Aaarggghh why do you tell us kids horror stories like this? Monsters!
Salaam mate.
No they can't. That's just rubbish.
What I would really like to know is how many people actually get their news from "Google News"? I can only be certain that I never have and as AFAIK, no family member ever has either. "She" hasn't disabled it because she doesn't care about it and what news she does check comes from the free newspaper on her desk at work each day. Other than that it is by radio on the commute.
Second point is that it would seem that most newspapers in Australia are owned by the Murdochs, I'm pretty sure that most of their Masthead websites are prescription. At best you would be getting FOX news from them anyway. Murdoch stuff is probably in deep shit right now because Lachlan is useless and is slowly wrecking the train. The virus recession could leave them as a smoking hole.
Google could bring benefit to the world by doing their usual "end the beta" nonsense and just shutter Google News. No harm will come.

Thank fuck for Russians. They give you something to laugh at every day.
The likely outcome is that no State will care until California discovers it was a diesel and then they will go ape-shit, SWAT, Grand Jury, and terrible Hollywood re-enactments featuring vampire chicks and old fashioned cop that shoots first and doesn't bother with questions. He will have a black side-kick who will be killed mid movie.
From The Atlantic April 6
"Two weeks ago, French doctors published a provocative observation in a microbiology journal. In the absence of a known treatment for COVID-19, the doctors had taken to experimentation with a potent drug known as hydroxychloroquine. For decades, the drug has been used to treat malaria—which is caused by a parasite, not a virus. In six patients with COVID-19, the doctors combined hydroxychloroquine with azithromycin (known to many as “Z-Pak,” an antibiotic that kills bacteria, not viruses) and reported that after six days of this regimen, all six people tested negative for the virus.
The report caught the eye of the celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz, who has since appeared on Fox News to talk about hydroxychloroquine 21 times. As Oz put it to Sean Hannity, “This French doctor, [Didier] Raoult, a very famous infectious-disease specialist, had done some interesting work at a pilot study showing that he could get rid of the virus in six days in 100 percent of the patients he treated.” Raoult has made news in recent years as a pan-disciplinary provocateur; he has questioned climate change and Darwinian evolution. On January 21, at the height of the coronavirus outbreak in China, Raoult said in a YouTube video, “The fact that people have died of coronavirus in China, you know, I don’t feel very concerned.” Last week, Oz, who has been advising the president on the coronavirus, described Raoult to Hannity as “very impressive.” Oz told Hannity that he had informed the White House as much.

Which particular study are you talking about?
I assume it's not the Chinese study starting in early February?
I also assume you are not quoting this one?
Have you try turn it off and on again?
From where I reside at the moment, I am not seeing any nation other than the US demonstrate negativity to China. In fact, there are elements of sympathy apparent.
There has been an overall easing of anti-China rhetoric from Vietnam and Japan. Turkey was about the only other country with a persistent anti-China stance and they seem to have larger issues lately.

I've never a situation where Dr WHO was involved that masses of people didn't come to great harm. After more than 50 years of this, what have you come to expect?
I would be happy enough, if from today, I could be assured that there would be no Government Hubris & Corruption going forward.
