There's probably an app for that. Granted it would be easy enough to just turn your phone off, but it would be pretty suspicious if data wasn't getting logged.

In terms of time and money, hard drives have been much worse.
Sometimes companies have to have an audit done (e.g. PCI or HIPAA), so they'll just disable vulnerable services while the audit is being done and re-enable them. I've seen it happen.
