Comment Re:Ubuntu (Score 1) 766

Once I've converted folks, I've often put a sheet of paper next to the computer, listing equivalent options between Ubuntu and Windows. If you want to do something and can't figure out how immediately, look at the list. Eventually, that list will disappear from use. I always leave my cell phone number and a card listing the hours where I'm not otherwise occupied.

Can you post that list here? Sounds useful. Thanks.

Don't forget to include your cell phone number!

Submission + - LHC has first collisions after years of waiting (web.cern.ch)

An anonymous reader writes: Only after four days from first attempt to send a particle beam all around the LHC circle have we arrived at the point that today all four experiments got their first real collisions from the machine. This was met by celebrations and champagne as people have been waiting years and years for this moment. It is a statement to the engineering of the machine that collisions were reached already few days after restart and the LHC has already demonstrated ca 10h stable beams and now also stable beams in both directions at the same time. In the coming weeks we now have just to wait for increased intensity and first attempts to acceleration.

My prescription is 7.5mg hydrocodone, 500mg acetaminophen (standard - though there are a few variations on the amount of hydrocodone). The FDA has enforced that amount of acetaminophen, for two reasons. Hydrocodone is relatively addictive, and acetaminophen often induces a huge amount of nausea.

Generally, it is the narcotic causing the nausea, not the acetaminophen.

The FDA made the drug companies put acetaminophen into the narcotic painkillers to keep people from recreationally overdosing on them (same as they "denature" ethyl alcohol that you can buy at the hardware store by poisoning it with methyl alcohol)...

This is not true at all. Acetaminophen and narcotics are mixed because the combination is a much more effective pain reliever than either alone.

Submission + - Hulu To Begin Charging For Video Content 1

An anonymous reader writes: All great free things can't last forever, especially when the entertainment industry is involved. What I'm referring to is Hulu.com, the most popular content streaming service online and where millions of users watch full TV episodes of their favorite shows. According to Jonathan Miller, News Corp's CDO, Hulu may soon begin charging subscription fees for some of their online content. News Corp is the parent company of Fox which owns a huge portion of Hulu. When Miller of Newscorp was asked if Hulu would begin charging for online content during an Interview with Daily Finance, he said that "the answer could be yes." He went on to say that he doesn't "see why over time that shouldn't happen."

Submission + - WHO Raises Pandemic Threat Level

Solarch writes: Late in the afternoon on Wednesday, the WHO raised the pandemic threat level for H1N1 "swine flu" to 5. Global media outlets(such as CNN, Fox News, and the BBC) preempted normal broadcast coverage and immediately published stories on their websites. To clarify, the WHO's elevation is mainly a sign to governments that the virus is spreading quickly and that steps should be taken on a governmental level to stage supplies and medicines to combat a possible pandemic. Unfortunately, broadcast coverage focused on phrases like "pandemic imminent" (CNN marquee). In other news, patient zero, the medical term for the initial human vector of a disease, has been tentatively identified in Mexico.
