Frozen driverless cars are another in a long line of wins for the SFMTA's Transit Last program. Road diets have generated gridlock even in a downtown which has lost 2/3 of its pre-pandemic economy. The new Central Subway cost over $1.5 billion dollars, and travels just 1.7 miles. These have all contributed to San Francisco's proud tradition of providing the slowest yet most expensive public transit in the nation. Transit Last: "Stay Right Where You Are!"

Palm oil is completely harmless and non-destructive to the environment, as long as there aren't more than 2 billion people. 8 billion people, and palm oil is among the least of your problems. Still, there's a lot to be said for new products that can profit from people wanting to give the impression they're helping to save the planet.

Submission + - Meta Shipping Bricked Quest Headsets (oculusvr.com)

Drunkulus writes: As outlined in a forum thread that's now 2 months old, the Quest 2 has a bug that prevents it from pairing with a phone, rendering it useless. Most cases appear to be new or refurb headsets with the latest firmware, which has been blamed for the issue. However, performing a factory reset also results in a non-pairing Quest. The problem is comically marked "Solved" by Meta support in early September, but complaints continue to this day so it's clearly not fixed. A credible solution for the hackers among you is to sideload an older firmware, pair the headset, then update.
Disclosure: I myself bought a refurb Quest 2 and returned it after trying to pair it with an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy.

Electric planes with lithium batteries are a PR gimmick at best. The Beaver can barely take off with the pilot on board. There is no room in the cabin for a passenger due to the battery packs. A better battery with at least 10x the energy density will be needed to give the seaplane capacity for a 20 minute flight with passengers, and that battery is nowhere on the horizon. Great, you strapped wings to this pig and it staggered into the air. You could have done something useful to reduce C02 emissions such as refit a biofuel capable engine like the Pratt and Whitney turbine, but NO let's just strip mine the planet for lithium.
