Trucking is a super low margin business and fuel is the biggest cost, much more than labor. The trucking companies that force their truckers to waste 10% of their time charging their trucks with cheap electricity will survive, and the companies that use more expensive fuel (aka hydrogen) will go bankrupt.

Hydrogen needs to be compressed before you fill a car. Stations only store a limited amount of the compressed fuel; for example enough to fill 3 cars. And then it takes an hour to compress more. So if 3 people have refilled in the last hour, you get to wait.

Amazon triggers a *lot* more trans-pacific jet flights than Kuiper ever will trigger rocket launches.

Musk recently stated that FSD has cost Tesla $10B so far, and Tesla FSD is many years behind Waymo IMO. I'm sure Waymo has spent a lot more.

No, they're not equivalent. Waymo only does urban driving, and humans have a death rate in urban areas about 10X that of humans freeway driving, which Waymo doesn't do.

Nordhaus one a Nobel Memorial Prize for figuring this out. You need three pieces: tax, tariff & rebate. You put a tax on your own carbon, you put a tariff on untaxed imported induced carbon and you give out a per capita rebate with all the rest.

Canada has 2 pieces of the puzzle, but is missing the tariff part. In Canada there's a carbon tax of 14 cents a litre on gasoline, and then everybody gets a few hundred dollars as a rebate every quarter. If you own a private jet you can end up paying 6 figures in carbon taxes but you get the same $300 rebate as everybody else. The way the long tails work, for 80% of Canadians the rebate is higher than the tax.

I didn't say that AI's have a high level of intelligence. They're obviously often pretty stupid. But they have intelligence by any reasonable definition of the word, IMO.

Adding "and show your steps" will elicit a reasoning chain from those AI's. And it can be demonstrated that it's not just regurgitation. If "predictive text" can demonstrate both reasoning and originality, than "It's just predictive text" is similar to saying "high marks on exams aren't indicative of true intelligence". It might be true, but faking it is a harder problem than just doing it.

The US military spends a massive chunk of its budget transporting kerosene from one place to another. Often that kerosene is burned to produce electricity.

Space based solar power is cheaper than flying kerosene to a generator. So yes, it could be useful to the US military.

The definition of cancer is "a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body.".

A slow growing prostrate cancer simply doesn't meet that definition.
