Where I live in BC, levies on gasoline consist of 38.8/litre, and then there's another 5% federal sales tax on top of that. (In Vancouver, those levies are 51.3/litre.) Gas is currently $1.60/litre which includes the 5% federal sales tax. that's around 8/litre. So, we have around 46/litre of taxes alone. And I'm sure there's other levies and taxes hidden in the entire system such as those on production and extraction that are harder to dig up.
The problem is taxes and levies, and that problem can be placed squarely on the government. But hey, if you want your free stuff from the government, the money has to come from somewhere.
Communist Occupied China is definitely on the cusp of a serious demographics problem. Fortunately, that's good news for the rest of the planet.
