The results are in! The latest projections indicate that the progressivist culture of death still doesn't work. Outside of the pacific coast states (and somehow I don't get the feeling the growth here is due to an incredibly high reproductive rate among whites females in San Fransisco), the blue states are growing at a slow rate. Thats more electoral votes passed to the red states for free. And who are having the babies that are fueling the growth? Shore ain't dem folk dat be havin dem dere abortions. There is nothing a liberal fears more than someone who believes in something. This is why they fear and hate John Bolton and Pope Benedict XVI. These men have Conviction and Believe in Something. The attacks on Bolton have not been about what he has done, but how he has done it. This is very similar to what they tried to do to Clarence Thomas. Someone who believes in something will not be tripped up by every obstacle, and will push those aside who stand in their way. You can't compromise with a nihilist. They don't want anything so there is nothing you can offer them. I probably don't agree with these men in every detail, but I can relate to them. I cannot relate with someone who doesn't believe in anything.

The Cardinal Ratzinger said things like: "Not all moral issues have the same weight as abortion and euthanasia.... There may be a legitimate diversity of opinion, even among Catholics, about waging war or applying the death penalty, but not, however, with regard to abortion and euthanasia." Despite the obvious nod to diversity of opinion, this kind of talk scares people who don't even believe in the concept of moral issues. It doesn't leave room for whining or compromise or cooperation. He Believes what he Believes. For this, some think its wise to try to paint him as a Nazi. These people are very small minded, and in the realm of de facto racism against Germans. (Let us not forget that blue-state, Prius-driving favorite Trader Joe's was founded by Germans who had been captured by the USA as POW's during WWII. By your own standards, each sip of that 2-buck Chuck contains a little drop of Hitler.)

I am not even a Catholic, but I can respect someone who will say: "Relativism is letting oneself be 'swept along by every wind of teaching.' Its useful to find out who is a nihilist. I like to know what I am dealing with. What to know a quick way to out a nihilist? In conversation, pay them the "compliment" of being "very non-judgemental". Only a nihilist could possibly accept that compliment without reservation. In fact, this is the highest compliment you can pay a nihilist. Their reaction will clearly indicate this.

Nuclear option ho! Super majorities...the people of the state of Washington voted to require one, the Democrats just removed it so they don't have to cooperate with Republicans. That's double contempt for democracy. This isn't just changing the rules for confirming judges, this is removing a law the voters wanted. I must say I'm slightly impressed. Here in California, Democrats use judges to remove laws the voters wanted. Up there they have the balls to just do it in the open.

In light of freeway shootings becoming trendy again over the last few days, here's some things:

Among urban youth in Los Angeles, 50% of sixth graders have been exposed to violence within the last year, while 30% had been directly threatened with a knife or gun.

Special Order 40, which originated 17 years ago with the L.A. City Council, mandates that police not question anyone they arrest about their immigration status until after criminal charges have been made. It basically orders the police to not enforce immigration law. Both remaining mayoral candidates (both Democrats) support Special Order 40 and dismiss calls for its repeal. It may be the only standing order in the history of the world preventing local police from enforcing a law.

In the LAUSD, just 39 percent of Latino students and 47 percent of African-American students graduate in four years. The state has a graduation rate of 87%, but LAUSD is at 71%. I could not find what the state-wide rate would be if the LAUSD was not counted.

50% of the parents of children in Los Angeles don't speak English at home.

I don't live in LA, but I definitely drive on those freeways where random people are getting shot.

Update based on more info I found while researching my comments: The LA Times claims that 60% of the 20,000 member strong 18th Street gang are illegal immigrants. Weird that everyone knows this and noone is willing to do anything about it.

We teach English to Spanish speakers. This isn't considered racist. I would even correct a child of an Australian immigrant in cases where their spelling differs from American.

To those of you were for removing the late Mrs. Shiavo's feeding tube: Would you feel the same way if she was 8 months pregnant?

A woman is ruled to be in a PVS after 5 months in a coma. She was 3 months pregnant when she was struck in the head by a thief and she is in the 8th month now. The baby is a boy of healthy weight with no complications. Her husband has decided he wants her feeding tube removed (the only life-sustaining device necessary for her condition) for reasons he has declined to state publicly, and there is no living will containing her wishes. Her parents are willing to pay to support her indefinitely. A local judge has ruled that the feeding tube is to be removed. Do you support this decision and why or why not?

In fact, if you were making a good case in the journal entries themselves you wouldn't need to respond much either. I don't even read your responses because I either know exactly what you are going to say and don't consider it interesting or I consider my post tight enough that I don't care what you have say.
