Idiots.

You're just upset you cant science like the rest of us. /sarcasm

(some of us understand its also geopolitical, but its more fun to discuss the nuances of how you divide up a celestial body for timekeeping when a rotation based moon-day is something like 27 earth days)

Comment Does it matter? (Score 1) 193

Exercising my google fu, it appears the moon rotates every 27 days. So now what? Will the moon have 24 hour (ish) hours to account for 1 sunrise and 1 sunset? If it moves so slow, is it really practical to try to sync up a clock with time zones? Especially since it would be "all over the place" as it relates to earth time/time zones. It s not like you can say "if it is 4P UTC the time on the moon (based on its rotation) is ___________. "

I think you set it to UTC across the entire surface, it would make sense given how slow it rotates.

Pilots here operate on UTC all the time. So it doesnt have to mean that at noon the sun is over your head.

Comment If you are going to WFH, be professional. (Score 0, Flamebait) 220

And by professional, do it right. I mean setup a dedicated room with a door that closes so that you can work and communicate with others in peace. And dont use your speakerphone because it picks up too much background noise. We don't need to hear your personal/family life happening in the background.

I am so tired of having to listen to folks that think its cool to WFH in common areas with their spouses, dogs, and kids running around making noise. One guy I talk to regularly apparently does so in his mud room or kitchen, because I can hear his spouse come in and out of the house thanks to squeaky doors that slam. (I know he lives in an old farmhouse from chatting with him over the years) Its as unprofessional as a cube dweller insisting on making a call on a speakerphone, or cranking your speakerphone up so loud I can hear both sides of the conversation clearly through the office walls.

While I understand really loud noises on the other side of a closed door will come through. I get it. But I shouldnt hear doors slamming, conversations and footsteps obviously in the same room, etc. while we are trying to have a meeting. Please Use headsets and physical isolation to minimize the rest of your home's natural (and not business friendly) noises.

Comment They are hitting FB local groups as well... (Score 1) 25

There was a scammer(s?) that loved to post fake job offers on our FB neighborhood pages claiming to have 3rd shift jobs nearby for Amazon (including transport to/from the job), or even better; work at home for Netflix. Both were 3rd shift positions, claiming up to $85/hr. They'd post hiring events to lure victims in.

And looking at their website, it was obvious they were not legit, (generic with unfinished pages in the wordpress template) but I'm sure lots of out of work folks fell for it, desperate for an hourly rate they couldnt begin to earn legitimately.

Old news. I remember when digital photo frames first came out. Owner's daughter bought one. She asked us to show her how to load photos onto it.

about 5 seconds after we plugged it into her laptop, AV software immediately alerted on a preloaded virus that was set to autorun (if allowed by the system, luckily our GPOs disabled that)

The sad thing is the cost of this cheap Chinese knockoff wasnt that much lower than any other brand.

There really is no excuse for this one. Just type out the message (since its the same for everyone) and hit enter. Done and done.

Soooo its because their IT department is incompetent with their MDM policies? I don't buy that, the USGOV takes marching orders from DOD. But then again, Hillary was allowed to run a private email server for the state department even when DOD policy threatened jail time to any peon who attempted to do the same

(this is not red vs blue, this is about government officials not following their own guidelines)

To be fair, she wasnt hosting hillary@dodcontrolledaddress.gov. in her bathroom. She was hosting a private email address and then stopped using her official .gov address for correspondence to intentionally bypass govt oversight. (I believe she later claimed she was too stupid to understand what she was doing and it was an accident)

If you or I did that as peons, we'd be behind bars right now. But she and others (on both sides of the aisle) are special and above the law.

Intentionally bypass safeguards and pass top secret/confidential info through a private, probably compromised mail server and then destroy the evidence? No big deal.
Take a selfie in a sub and accidentally get the top secret controls in the background? Thats a jailin'.

We should tax only on consumption. A nations sales tax. No IRS. No returns. Incentivize saving money in your local bank so they can lend it out, paying interest to you, collecting interest from lendees. That would be the best solution. Every billionaire with a yacht would pay hefty consumption tax and the rate can be adjusted annually to the prior yearâ(TM)s expenditures.

Yep. Check it out. www.fairtax.org.

And its better than a flat tax because there is a prebate every month to reimburse you for what you would spend up to the poverty line for necessities. So the poor could effectively pay zero taxes still. Low income folks are impacted more on a flat tax than the affluent.

But dont let the lies of the detractors fool you. Yes its a 23% tax, but the IRS is GONE (by law it cant kick in until the IRS goes away) so you get most of that back by taking home your entire paycheck. So its more or less a wash. But those against changing status quo will omit the 2nd part, and claim "MY OPPONENT WANTS TO RAISE YOUR TAXES BY 23%!!!!!! Vote for me instead and keep your money. "

And the devil is in the details. Its only on NEW purchases. Buy a used car? No tax. So you control how much tax you pay by how much you spend.

And no I have no intention on debating it here. I'll let somebody else do that. Just putting it out there for those interested in learning more.

Luckily thats what I was running in my gaming rig, and I wasnt playing as much as I used to so I just gave up playing FPS' and traded him cards so he could play.

Maybe now I can get back into gaming again.
