An anonymous reader writes: A leaked memo from the CERN's ATLAS experiment servers shows a paper that claims to have seen evidence for a non-Standard Model 115GeV Higgs boson (a very light Higgs). Despite the paper being on the CERN servers, the party line is, “This is not an official result of the ATLAS experiment.” Author's include Wisconsin physicist, Sau Lau Wu, who has been on the hunt for the light Higgs for quite some time.

Dude, I just read her blog (because I know her), I can bring links that I didn't actually create myself. I even reference people to Google sometimes and I'm pretty sure I have nothing to do with that.

Ono is one of 5 people responsible though, and the others were all postdocs (I think), so it's not out of the question for the work to lead to a Fields medal for someone.

universegeek writes: It appears Fermilab's Tevatron will be shutting down by the end of 2011. Rumors confirmed today at the ISP220 conference say that the DOE denied further funding for the project. Looks like the LHC is our only hope in the hunt for the Higgs after all.
