There were no facts that could resist it because all the facts came from his own mouth. He tied a rope around his own neck whilst other people gave him the chance to rephrase or step back from what he'd said given the light in which it was said. He proceeded to tie the rope tighter, presumably because he thought we would stop him from jumping.
So when he jumped, and he did jump, he did so thinking he was immune from the consequences of his own words. He was wrong. Now the FSF, an organisation that nobody really gives two shits about anymore has taken him back and nobody cares anymore. The FSF stopped being relevant in the real world a decade ago and these days other leaders of open source have taken its place and people still know what free software is and still support it despite the FSF not being something many of them have heard or dealt with.
Life moves on, nobody cares what captain crusty feet is up to, apart from holding his callous feet to the fire whenever he opens his mouth and spews garbage just to make sure he realises there ARE consequences in the real world, the world that matters, the world that no longer cares what the FSF do anymore.
