Submission + - SPAM: Why Apple's 'Pro Display XDR' Matters
This new display is about better pixels, not just more pixels. To achieve extremes of performance, Apple placed an array of LEDs directly behind the screen and came up with new ways to control their brightness, minimize their heat output, and carry away excess heat. The ability to generate bright higlights and very dark blacks gives the screen a high contrast ratio, which makes it ideal for displaying HDR photos and video. Engineers predict that many of these technologies will eventually filter down into consumer-level displays. Which is good, because the monitors and TVs we’ve all been using for the last five, 10, or 15 years are already looking pretty dim and fuzzy by comparison.
