Comment Citrix? (Score 1) 176

You mean Cloud Software Group. The investment company that bought Citrix for a pretty penny and then everyone started leaving on-premises for the cloud. So, now they are saying that people are going back on-premises. Well, that is not really the case. Some people are moving back on-premises because they didn't plan their cloud journey well enough and are not getting the expected performance and/or they didn't plan their costs correctly. CSG got rid of their base products and is forcing everyone to subscription licensing in a money grab. Of all the customers we had, every one except the hospitals (medical imaging just doesn't play well with full cloud because of performance) are moving away from Citrix and moving to Windows 365 or cloud VMs of some sort. Citrix is charging so much, they are not that expensive anymore in comparison. So, I would view this report as marketing focused as they are trying to keep their products relevant in the years to come.

Electric vehicle charging stations should be like ATMs you see in the convenience stores. Let the local power company have a profit center service to deploy them and let individual companies have them available for a part of the profit. If people buy the electric vehicles and charging them is profitable, then you will see charging stations pop up everywhere without the need for government intervention.

Comment Re:I measure my time outdoors in hours not days. (Score 1) 71

I understand there are outdoorsy people who disappear into the woods for weeks, probably have a secret hut and secret forest family of green blooded elves. If they use technology at all on these adventures, they might want the garmin.

But I'm going to bet if you're the kind of person who owns or wants to own an Apple Watch, makes the six figure salary that gets you the kind of disposable income that affords you a wholly unnecessary device like a watch, then your outdoor time is probably limited to day trips or maybe a weekend spent camping, probably with or near an RV or at least car to charge from. The boss wants you back in at your desk in the morning, and they don't pay you for the side-elves, etc.

Garmin may be missing the point here.

The average salary of a triathlete is over $100k. They swim, then bike, then run. The shortest is a sprint and takes the average person (lots of people, not just competitive athletes do these) about 3 hours to complete. An Olympic distance is a 800 m swim, 25-30 mile bike ride, and a 10k run. A typical Apple watch will not last long enough for this distance for non-competitive triathletes. There are longer distances, 1/2 ironman and the full ironman (2m swim, 100 mile bike, and ends with a 26.2 mile marathon). The Garmin watch will survive a marathon with GPS active. That is the standard Apple wanted to fill with the ultra, it will last an Ironman Triathlon. If you need more that than, you are probably fit enough to bring a solar/battery charger with you. I charge my Fenix 5 while in the shower and then getting ready. It is the last item I put on before leaving the bedroom. That is my standard for chargeability, it should fully charge in that time for a typical daily usage. If I golfed and drained it further, usually after breakfast it is charged. Apple should have a max charge delivered in 45 minutes or less, that would be a phenomenal selling point for people who track everything they do daily and feel naked without their notifications on their wrist.

Comment Extiniction? (Score 1) 75

Extinction, really? Based from a single core sample from one location in all the oceans? Maybe there was a Megalodon in the area and the other sharks just left. You really need core samples from across all the oceans in many different locations (include spawning, non-spawning, strong current, low current, volcanic, non-volcanic, etc.) to really know if the populations were down or the sharks just went elsewhere because there was more favorable conditions. The oceans are all connected, they don't need to stay in one spot.
