Comment Goofus and Gallant? (Score 1) 19

For me, the biggest surprise is that Goofus and Gallant even exist any more! I was reading the Goofus and Gallant cartoon in Highlights in the very early 60's, when I was just learning to read. I can't believe they still are a thing. Much less that they have laptops!

I have a real problem with using the present tense in announcements like this. It is rife in rocket news.

It can do this, it can do that, it can build projects in space, in can travel to the Moon, it can refuel spacecraft, ad nauseam.

The fact is... NO IT CAN'T. It doesn't even exist! Given BO's track record so far, even future tense seems pushing it - it will do this, it will do that, etc. What they really ought to say is that "we have this concept, and we hope that some day we might work up to doing some of this cool stuff."

Comment The Insider Program is a mess (Score 1) 23

And has been for some time. Dev channel, Beta channel, Release Preview channel, and now Canary? And no intent that things you've seen in an 'advance' channel will ever make it to the release version. Heck, no guarantee that any two releases from the same channel will even be the same, what with all the A/B shit they're pulling.

I quit the Insiders thing years ago - got real tired of being a chump. Unpaid QA for MS - no thanks.

I believe there are options to keep a supported Windows 10 for corporate customers going until 2029. So "when Windows 10 goes EOL" for these outfits is 6 years off, and perhaps their "extremely viable hardware" might need replacing by then. Perhaps Ubuntu will still exist in 6 years. Perhaps you will still be in business in 6 years. Who knows?
