You are thinking of Debian. Unfortunately there's loads of proprietary software in Ubuntu. God for bid anyone actually have moral standards or anything, though.

XFCE is indeed sensible—on old and underpowered hardware. I can't imagine using it as a daily driver. It's somewhat painful to look at. It feels like going back in time at least 10 years. Surprisingly, it doesn't even reduce system resource usage all that much and certainly doesn't feel particularly snappy. But obviously some people prefer it, and that's the great thing about running a Linux distribution, you can choose what you like.
But going out of your way to put down the thing you don't like every time it's mentioned? That's just pathetic.
Why would anyone install Chrome on Linux? That makes no sense at all. Even if you prefer it over Firefox, why wouldn't you install Chromium without all of the proprietary Google spyware backed-in? I just don't understand. Is it simply a lack of awareness? Linux users are typically a little more informed than your average consumer.
It should also be mentioned that Ubuntu 19.10 has actually *removed* Chromium from its repositories, and will automatically install the distribution-independent Snap package of Chromium automatically. This means people will face issues with system themes and other glitches, though they are working on solving these problems.
So what exactly is two-way wireless charging? To me, that means placing two phones back-to-back and using one to charge another. But this also seems really stupid. Or does it mean you can also charge by placing the phone face-down? Either way, a bizarre feature.
There is absolutely no reason for something like Venmo to be a native mobile app. They should be moving toward a Progressive Web App, so this is a step in the absolute opposite direction. So ridiculous. I've still yet to use Venmo or meet anyone else who does. I guess it's because I'm not a millennial. Actions like this are certainly not motivating me to try it out, either.
I guess I'll be sticking with Google Pay Send (in spite of it's new, terrible name).
Where the fuck do you get "Christian" from? White male, yes (in the US and Europe), but the vast majority of computer scientists I've met are atheist—particularly the white, male ones. Obviously the field attracts people who tend to be very analytical and rational. Of course you get the occasional religious freak, but it's rare.
By what percentage did *applicants* in each of these categories rise or fall? What about the percentages amongst promotions? Of course we're not going to solve systemic racism and sexism in the tech industry overnight. It takes generations to undo that kind of damage. But what we *can* do is make sure that no discriminatory hiring practices are taking place.
EditorDavid needs to watch the classic cartoon, "How a Bill Becomes a Law", because he doesn't seem to understand the difference between the two.
There are two different issues here. One is spell checking in an input field, which is where you will find a red underline on misspelled words. This has nothing to do with the input method, be it a soft-keyboard or anything else. It is dependent on the application being used. The other issue is auto-correction/auto-completion, which is indeed handled by the keyboard, and which Gboard still does.
I have definitely noticed the lack of spell checking in input fields, and hope they get the issue resolved soon. It's very annoying.
Are they just guessing based on people's appearance? Is it on the honour system? How do they know who is a local and who is a visitor? Or do they make even locals use some kind of card to identify themselves?

It seems like the bigger story here is that Microsoft has included code from the GPL-licensed unrar in their Windows Defender product, without releasing the full source code as required by the license agreement. Am I missing anything? The FSF needs to go after them for this!
It's almost as if environmental calamity alone is not enough motivation for a capitalist company to change its behaviour. Who would have guessed! You know when even Germany cant force companies to do the right thing, we're all doomed.
So now they're trying to label streaming as "piracy?" You've got to be kidding me! These people will stop at nothing to maintain their 1950s business model and tarnish public perception with misinformation.
Obviously. Go Human Beings!
