Submission + - Richard Stallman talks on Copyright V. The People 5

holden writes: "Richard M. Stallman recently gave a talk entitled Copyright vs Community in the Age of Computer Networks to the University of Waterloo Computer Science Club. The talk looks at the origin of copyright, and how it has evolved overtime from something that originally served the benefit of the people to a tool used against them. In keeping with his wishes to use open formats, the talk and qa are available in ogg theora only."

And I wonder how their servers are gonna handle a direct slashdot hit to their two cd-sized files.
    • IIRC, they are balancing it across a few relatively powerful servers. I'm pretty sure they can push out more than UW can, so the uplink is the issue here.
  • While I don't agree with a lot of his views, the talk its self is very interesting.
  • I'm really happy that the Q&A session has the audio on the questions boosted, its a bit off since RMS tends to cut people off mid-question, but at least we can hear the questions :)
