Okay, reading this article explains the situation with more clarity. The pulp press I read before was quite incorrect. Russia should be able to protect it's independence as far as connecting to the internet. However, all this BS about internet being run by Communications corporations, meddling governments, etc leads me to believe there will be an underground internet soon that is beyond control of Governements. A p2p WIFI network of Pringle cans that connect you to a public net.
