NASA to Propose Commercial Space Initiative

MarkWhittington writes: The Wall Street Journal is reporting that starting with the FY2011 budget request for NASA, the Obama administration intends to propose a new program to encourage the development of a commercial space flight industry.

The benefit is that private industry will be more cost effective, and once started, will likely develop applications that are novel than NASA.

This would allow NASA to focus on the next steps (man travel to planets) while industry maintains the "local" travel.
