ATI shareholders approve takeover by AMD

What are the implications of ATI's shareholders approval of the takeover by AMD ? According to ATI CEO David Orton, "The expanded AMD has a potential market of US$50 billion annually." "Orton acknowledged that ATI's engineers have been asking how the company will maintain its high-speed innovation as part of the world's second-largest maker of personal-computer chips, but he expressed confidence that the new AMD will "maintain that entrepreneurial spirit and agility, and at the same time leverage the processes and capabilities of a large company."" In addition, the transaction "will generate new opportunities for both companies, the employees and the communities in which we operate," stated AMD chairman and CEO Hector Ruiz.
