If you're just embarking on your first novel a program like yWriter may seem like overkill. You just need to type everything into a word processing program. It's possible, but once you reach 20,000 words, you will find yourself overwhelmed with notes, missing scenes, chapters, and characters. Imagine that same novel at 40,000 words or 80,000 words. It's no wonder that most first-time authors give up.
