Summary: Simple Mobile Tools presents themselves to offer "free" open-source apps. However, all of their features are not available without paying. It may be a Dollar/Euro, but that should rather be clearly stated rather than making a user find out only after downloading, setting-up, and diving into their app(s).
I've found the listed issues above relating to SMS Messenger coupled with the fact that their Simple Contacts only interacts with their other apps our Slovakian friends lost this user because SMS Messenger is seriously lacking the most basic features, e.g. saving photos and/or adding emojis.
Their unresponsive "support" just made me give up and I've moved on to another apps for non-Google SMS and Contacts that I can use emojis and download photos of my new baby nephew.

Positive: It's a light app that is simple (as the name indicates) to use, clean, basic, and not reliant on Google (which is what I was looking for).

Negative: Specifically with Version 5.17.4 -
All (and even basic) features are not free.
Blocking unwanted SMS senders and adjusting the user colors is only available to paid users. The colors issue, no big deal. Having to pay to block unwanted SMS senders...seriously? Honesty up front, rather than claiming to be "free" would be a better policy than to deceive.
It does NOT have emojis available to send/use.
Photos received from your contacts cannot be downloaded/saved locally. I received photos of my newborn nephew that I cannot save to my device. What's that all about?
Email sent to their "help" email address about the emojis and downloading/saving photos locally has not been replied to in 5 weeks timeframe (since I sent it). Since they have only a couple of generic FAQ answers, that's as useless as emailing Simple Mobile Tools.
