    Good but could be better

    Date: May 24 2021

Summary: Microsoft is familiar to nearly everyone who has used a computer. They have an application for everything, and it would certainly be difficult to run a business without using at least some of their tools. But because it is a business that is already so dominantly successful, there is no real reason for them to focus on optimizing the user experience. They only need to do enough to stay on top.

Positive: It's great that 365 has every application that an organization could need, from file creation programs such as word and excel, storage options like sharepoint, collaboration tools (teams) and email (outlook). Microsoft has a near monopoly on many of these applications, so it's no surprise that most users will have some degree of experience with them. Excel specifically is an incredibly robust tool that makes SO many aspects of data management simpler when used well.

Negative: Likely because Microsoft had such little competition for so long, there are a lot of clunky aspects to the programs and especially to the way the programs interact with each other. I've been both a mac and PC users over the years, and while some things are definitely more awkward on a mac, the bulk of my complaints are true on PC as well.

The interface of Teams is SO awkward and not particularly intuitive. Sharepoint is probably great but no one in my organization seems to know how to use it (or even really understand that it exists) so it is not well utilized. As much as I like excel, you can literally take entire classes in the program to understand what it can do. There are number of other applications available through 365 that I've never even really heard of. I am sure they would be useful, but Microsoft doesn't seem to make onboarding users to these systems a priority. They sell licenses to 365 either way, so they have no incentive to improve in these regards.

Similarly, Microsoft invests very little in improving the user experience, especially when compared to smaller, new organizations. As far as I am aware, Microsoft doesn't really offer much in the way of user support. On platforms such as our DAM (Widen) or data collaboration tool (Airtable), there are rich support centers and easy ways to contact their staff with questions. Microsoft does not provide these features despite the fact that they have SO many programs. While they certainly have a large help database, I find it extremely dated and more challenging to navigate. Perhaps it's unfair to compare Microsoft to these relative start ups, as it is an absolute behemoth with millions of users around the world. In most cases you can probably resolve issues by searching the internet. But I still find myself missing the well curated support portals crafted by these smaller service providers.

Consistent over the years, mostly reliable

    Date: Nov 04 2020

Summary: Personally, I prefer other office suites over Microsoft, but there's nothing majorly wrong with 365 itself and it works great for businesses and students especially. I've found in my life that the average student, especially minors, aren't as tech savvy as I expect them to be and struggle to download and run basic things on a computer. They're not going to be reaching for SimpleNote, Evernote or Libre Office. If it's not Microsoft, they'll turn to Google. I've had the least amount of issues switching files between Microsoft office software and the Google equivalents compared to more open source software available. For the classroom, I'd recommend this or Google's versions as these are the easiest for the average student to work with, and thus, easiest for me to deal with when walking them through it.

Positive: Despite the rebranding, it's still basically the same old office suite as before, which isn't a bad thing. For school and business, it's great and worth it. You can sync everything up with other Microsoft products, like Teams, and share your files easily. It's always been reliable over the years and most open software office suites will be able to save files compatible with Microsoft's office suite, so you can use freebies at home and transfer those files over at work/on campus later if you need to. Access is free to anyone with a .edu email, which is another big bonus for students.

Negative: It still has formatting glitches from time to time in all of the programs in the suite. And while you can typically use an open source or alternative program that will save Microsoft file types, sometimes you get really bizarre reformatting. The same can occur if you save a file in one of the office programs and open it in say, Google Sheets or Docs, and have all of the formatting you worked so hard on completely destroyed. There are some common glitches, but you never really know what it's going to do until you open the file up.

    Microsoft - 365 Review

    Date: Jun 13 2020

Summary: I have tried the free trial of Microsoft 365, the cloud space solution for all the business application is really a good idea. You can store all of the work in the cloud and can access remotely from anywhere and work without hustle.
The potential drawback here is the pricing. Rest other features and functionalities are very good, it offers 1 TB of cloud storage space.

Overall for large enterprises, Microsoft 365 is really a plus.

Positive: (+) Support for multiple applications like excel, outlook, PowerPoint, calendar, and many more.
(+) Smooth interface and seamless work environment.
(+) Support for multiple devices and multiple platforms.
(+) With one license you can access up to 5 devices simultaneously.
(+) 1 Tb of cloud storage space.

Negative: (-) The cost can be a big bomb.
(-) Design and features are a bit different when compared to traditional PowerPoint, excel, and other applications.
(-) The cloud storage has a few connectivity issues (Not very often)
(-) Integration between applications in the cloud can be a bit more smooth.
