Description

VectorCraft serves as an open-source platform for vector illustration and graphic design, catering to the needs of artists, illustrators, and designers alike. The application includes a comprehensive workspace equipped with tools for pen use and direct selection, along with capabilities for Bézier path manipulation, shape creation, and boolean operations. Users benefit from features such as snapping guides, layering, artboards, adjustable effects, gradients, image tracing, and typography controls. It allows for the creation and modification of vector graphics, supports the import of SVG and PDF files, and enables the export of various formats including SVG, PDF, PNG, JPEG, and WebP, efficiently accommodating multi-size screen assets. VectorCraft operates natively on macOS, Windows, and Linux platforms, while a WebAssembly version can be self-hosted for use in web browsers. Additionally, it offers command-line tools and a JSON control interface to facilitate scripted and agent-assisted editing, enhancing the overall creative workflow for users. This versatility makes VectorCraft an ideal choice for both casual creators and professional designers seeking powerful graphic editing capabilities.

Description

Raster images are transformed into vector graphics by interpreting pixel color data and representing it as basic geometric shapes. Typically, this process involves analyzing regions where colors or brightness levels are similar, which are then converted into graphic elements like lines, circles, and curves. A raster graphic consists of a rectangular array of pixels, each assigned a specific color value, and resizing such an image usually leads to a degradation in visual quality. In contrast, vector graphics rely on mathematical formulas to define shapes, such as points, lines, and curves, rather than being composed of pixels. This fundamental difference allows vector graphics to be resized and rotated without any loss of clarity or detail, making them highly adaptable for various applications. As a result, vector graphics are often preferred for designs requiring scalability, such as logos and illustrations.
