Description
PAVER is a pavement maintenance management system that emerged in the late 1970s to aid the Department of Defense (DOD) in overseeing the upkeep and repair of its vast pavement assets. By leveraging inspection data alongside a Pavement Condition Index (PCI) that ranges from zero (indicating failure) to 100 (indicating excellent condition), it effectively captures pavement statuses and forecasts future maintenance and repair requirements. The PCI for airport pavements was formalized as an ASTM standard in 1993 (D5340-10), and similarly for roads and parking lots in 1999 (D6433-09). PAVER™ conducts various analyses to ensure the effective distribution of maintenance and repair resources. The system's development has received backing from organizations such as the US Air Force, US Army, US Navy, Federal Aviation Administration, and Federal Highway Administration, emphasizing its importance. Furthermore, Colorado State University provides training and technology support services for non-DOD users, enhancing its accessibility. During inspections of concrete pavements, the software also enables users to create graphical representations of individual concrete panels, thus improving clarity in reporting findings. Overall, PAVER plays a crucial role in maintaining pavement quality and ensuring efficient resource utilization across various sectors.
Description
PAVEXpress is an accessible online tool designed for pavement design, aimed at aiding local agencies, engineers, and architects in calculating the appropriate thickness of pavement for a range of projects. This tool produces structural designs for both asphalt and concrete pavements, adhering to the established standards set forth by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). It has gained recognition among public agencies, including the Washington State Department of Transportation, as a reliable resource for evaluating, planning, and designing pavements. Over time, PAVEXpress has evolved to incorporate additional functionalities such as asphalt overlays, porous asphalt sections, life cycle cost analyses, and perpetual pavement design options. Furthermore, PAVEInstruct serves as a supplementary web-based educational platform offering video tutorials from industry experts, thereby enhancing the technical guidance available for pavement design. Together, these tools aim to streamline the pavement design process and ensure that professionals have access to the best practices in the industry.
