Description
Omarchy is an Arch Linux-based desktop operating system designed to provide a productive, customizable computing environment for developers and technical users. Created by David Heinemeier Hansson, the distribution combines the Hyprland tiling window manager, Quickshell desktop components, and a keyboard-focused interface. The operating system includes preconfigured applications such as Neovim, Chromium, Obsidian, and LibreOffice, reducing the need for extensive setup after installation. Its integrated AI agent capabilities enable users to diagnose application crashes, troubleshoot system issues, and create custom desktop extensions through conversational instructions. Omarchy provides system-wide themes that modify wallpapers, terminal colors, notifications, interface elements, and other desktop components. Development tools support Ruby on Rails, Laravel, Node.js, Docker, Git workflows, and configurable programming language environments through Mise. Users can install alternative editors and terminals, including Visual Studio Code, Cursor, Zed, Alacritty, Ghostty, and Kitty, while maintaining consistent system shortcuts. Gaming capabilities include Steam, Proton, RetroArch, and support for additional game launchers, while Windows virtualization enables access to compatible Windows productivity applications. Omarchy offers full-disk and dual-boot installation, default disk encryption, software updates, and community-developed plugins for extending desktop functionality.
Description
Salix is a streamlined GNU/Linux distribution that is derived from Slackware, emphasizing simplicity, speed, and user-friendliness, with a strong focus on stability. It maintains full compatibility with Slackware, allowing users to access Salix's repositories as an additional high-quality source for their preferred distribution. Comparable to a carefully cultivated bonsai, Salix is designed to be compact and lightweight, resulting from meticulous attention to detail. The ISO includes everything necessary for installation, featuring a complete desktop environment along with a well-rounded selection of applications that adhere to the principle of "one application per task." However, it includes only the essential components needed to initiate a console system, intentionally omitting a graphical interface. This makes Salix particularly suitable for advanced users who wish to tailor their installation for specific functions, such as setting up a web or file server, allowing for a highly personalized computing experience. Additionally, users can appreciate the flexibility offered by Salix to create a customized environment that meets their unique needs.
