POV-Ray™, which stands for Persistence of Vision Raytracer™, is a software application designed for generating high-quality computer graphics. It is classified as Free Software according to the Free Software Foundation, as its source code is distributed under the Affero General Public License (AGPL). Originally developed from DKBTrace 2.12 by a group known as the POV-Team™, this tool has been crafted during their leisure time. The POV-Team operates from an online platform, making their collaborative efforts accessible to users. The POV-Ray package comes with comprehensive instructions that guide users in utilizing the ray-tracer and crafting their own scenes. Alongside these instructions, many impressive pre-made scenes are bundled with POV-Ray, allowing users to start generating images right away upon installation. These scenes are customizable, meaning that users can easily adapt them without beginning from ground zero. Furthermore, the package includes a library filled with predefined shapes and materials, which can be effortlessly incorporated into personal scenes by simply referencing the library file at the beginning of the scene file.
