FortKnox's Journal: Stuck in the middle of Intercourse

Yes, I was driving with my wife and sister-in-law this holiday weekend, and we flew by blue balls, but managed to get stuck in the middle of intercourse, because of an amish woman.

OK, now that I have your attention, lemmie explain in detail.

I went to Hershey, PA for my wife's mother's family reunion. We stayed in an inn in Lancaster, PA. One night, we went to a famous amish smorgasboard (sp?). To get there, you have to drive through "Blue Balls, PA". On the way back, we got stuck in the middle of "Intercourse, PA": A major amish settlement, because an amish woman had her carriage in the middle of the road attempting a turn. BTW - Blue Balls is uncomfortably close to Intercourse.

And yes, I said the first paragraph (almost word-for-word) to my mother-in-law (who is a preacher) when we got back. Luckily, she went the same way, and saw the town names, and I'm still allowed to see her daughter ;-)

I've known about Intercourse, PA for some time now, never heard of Blue Balls, PA. I know Amish country is centered in Lancaster County, especially with all the carriages on the roads out there.

But I've driven to Hershey & area three times in the past year or so.

Once from the Baltimore area via I-83 (?) to my uncle's house in Hummelstown, which is about 5-10 mins from Hershey Park. Then last November from Philly via the Turnpike to a Phantoms vs. Bears AHL hockey game (was the last season at Hershey Arena for the Bears). Then three weeks ago to my uncle's from Phila. But both the trip to the game and my uncle's from Phila are the via the same route, just make a turn about a mile before the Park to get to my uncle's house.

All three times - no instance of Blue Balls or Intercourse.......

Then again, all the routes taken go no where near Lancaster County (AFAIK), as Hershey is in Dauphin Co. (again, AFAIK).

Both towns are tiny little amish towns. You need to use backroads to get there. But they do exist.
