Upon further investigation I have come to the conclusion that you are correct! Slashdot's robots.txt [slashdot.org] file tells google to stay away from any path that starts with a ~, as well as a bunch of other files.

The strange thing is that they seem to allow yahoo (Slurp) and msnbot to index those areas. I wonder why that is.
