Journal baggins2002's Journal: NT to Samba migration
I would be very interested in how to do this. We have attempted this on 2 occasions. The last time we used LDAP, everything went acceptably and we pulled some computers off of the network and logged in using the new SAMBA server.
This is where we saw the problem. Profiles on the computers had changed, and a user that logged in as baggins was able to log in, but the desktop was changed.
Unless we could figure out how to make the transition and preserve the users desktops it wasn't going to work. We have control systems with specific user logons that would make this unacceptable for users logins and unless we can find a solution we cannot migrate.
The solution which we figured would work, would be to transfer the profile and desktop settings on each computer. (Copy baggins.olddomain to baggins.newdomain )
