Journal Samrobb's Journal: Lazlos Chinese Relativity Axiom 3
The Laws of Slashdot #8 - first sighting of Lazlo's Chinese Relativity Axiom:
No matter how great your triumphs or how tragic your defeats - approximately one billion Chinese couldn't care less.
I heard that as... (Score:2)

I've heard other variations, as well, all of which play on the whole "China isn't larger than you imagine, it's larger than you can imagine" theme.
I'll have to ask a coworker about this - IIRC, he once mentioned a book on the problem with making reasonable estimates once you exceeded a certain scale. It's apparently one of the reasons large projects so often go over budget, and people insist on playing the lottery... they really, simply just can't grasp the magnitude of the numbers involved.

Here's population [odci.gov]:
China 1,286,975,468 (July 2003 est.)
India 1,049,700,118 (July 2003 est.)
Now consider area [odci.gov]:
China land: 9,326,410 sq km
India land: 2,973,190 sq km
I'll let you work out density for yourselves.
