Journal Abm0raz's Journal: Today is teh suck 3

So let's start at the beginning.

I made some kick ass beef & vegetable soup/stew this past saturday.

1 pound Beef tips (stew style)
2 large Idaho Russet Potatoes (cubed to 1/2"-3/4" pieces)
      1/2 medium red onion (quartereed)
      3 cloves of garlic
3 stalks of celery (chopped to 1" pieces)
      3 carrots (peeled/chopped to 1" peices)
    1/2 cup Medium barley
1 12oz can of chopped tomatoes
1 12oz can of snow corn (packed in water)
1 12oz can of peas (packed in water)
1 12oz can of chopped green beans (packed in water)
    1/4 cup chopped spinich
      2 tblsp chopped basil
      2 tblsp ground black pepper
1 qt can of beef broth
      2 tblsp vegetable oil
      1/4 cup Worchestershire sauce
              water as needed

In a 6qt soup pot, mix oil, worchester sauce and turn heat to med-hi. While it's heating, crush and dice the garlic cloves. When the sauce is starting to boil and you can really smell the garlic, add the beef tips and brown completely (The sauce should all but have evaporated). Add the beef broth (no additional water) potatoes, celery, onion, barley, and carrots. Bring to a slow simmer. Reduce heat to med-low and cover. Stir every 15 minutes for an hour. Add enough water each stir to just barely cover the vegetables. After an hour, pour in the rest of the ingredients (tomatos, corn, peas, beans, spinich, basil, pepper). Include the water that's ine each can of veggies. Stir and add enough more water to cover the entire mixture by ~2". Cover and simmer for 1hr, stirring lightly every 15min. The broth will have thickened, but I still add 1/4 of flour/cold mixture at the end to thicken it up a bit more. If cooked properly, the liquid should BARELY cover the veggies and be VERY flavorful (almost overpowering, but this is the way I like my food). Serves one fat man for 3 days.

[warning, below may offend some. Minor bodily functions described]

So, I ate this saturday. I woke up sunday with a slight cough (which I attributed to smoking mediums instead of lights (and a lot more of them) the night before while drinking) and the tomatos in the soup). I also noticed I had some of the FOULEST gas I had ever smelled (which I thought might be a side effect of the sheer amount of fiber in the soup). Constant farting. More coughing. By 6pm that night, I realized it wasn't the cigaretts (or the tomatos, which I am VERY mildly allergic to). I'd been poopin' all day as well. Went to bed early.

Got up monday. Almost no gas (few first thing in the morning, then nothing all day) but the coughing's gotten worse. Ate the rest of the stew ... no problems.

Today (Tuesday). I'm having side cramps from all the coughing. Downing Halls like they are tic-tacs. I finally figured out that I'm honest to goodness sick and not just recovering from my weekend vices and some food overdoses. Bit the bullet and got some orange juice and sprite for the vitamin C (which I'm also allergic to). Gotta find out if it's a cold or pneumonia again. I was feeling alright this morning (just a lot of coughing and a runny nose), but this afternoon I'm starting to get weak and having problems concentrating again. For those that don't remember, I had a bad bought of pneumonia last November. It was WAY worse than my symptoms now, but I'm dreading it. I'm still paying off the bills from that visit ... and I just got a $280 bill from my allergist. Lab tests $8. Doctor's interpertation of lab tests $272. His interpertation involved me picking up the results, driving to his office, him opening them in front of me and telling me what I already knew: I am deathly allergic to peanuts, horses, and most things that live in the ocean. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Anyways, think I'm gonna take the rest of the day off (since the rest of the office is getting a bit pissed at my constant coughing) and try to sleep this off.

    • Yeah, now you know better why I can't eat just about any fruit. Almost all fruits have some level of Vit. C in them, citrus just have a LOT of it. This doesn't lead to a healthy feeling most of the time. I don't have scurvy, but my skin does have issues at times, especially in cold or dry weather. And in extended cold AND dry weather, ... let's just say leppers feel better about themselves around me. Having a small inherited condition that predisposes my skin towards being naturally dry doesn't help th
  • If my body did that to me I'd be like:

"Hey! You get your bitch ass in the kitchen and make me a pie!"

    Feel better dude.

I bet it's a bitch getting insurance coverage isn't it?
