Journal slipkid's Journal: The Humorless

As I've begun making posts on /. I've noticed that there seem to be two major categories of Slashdot users/moderators.

1. Normal people - People who are interested in science and technology, and who enjoy visiting Slashdot for the great assortment of truly cool/interesting/weird/amusing things that show up here daily. These are people who are here to learn and to enjoy the community of like-minded folk who frequent this site.

2. Daleks who troll this site to search for any infinitessimal morsel of lightheartedness or humor and attempt to crush it by modding all of it down as "offtopic" or "overrated". If I may quote from this site's FAQ:

"If You Can't Be Deep, Be Funny: If you don't have something truly developing to the topic, some humor is welcome. Humor is lacking in our lives and will continue to be promoted. Remember though, what rips your sides out may be completely inane to somebody else."

So there are two parts to this. The last bit acknowledges that not all attempts at humor are going to be for all readers. That's fine. However, humor is welcome on this site, and it seems that there are those who just can't grok the idea that not every discussion has to be filled with meaningful data and be exclusive of joy at all times!

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, lighten the f*ck up. Try to smile occasionally - even if your teeth are yellow, or you sound stupid when you laugh, or if you feel that enjoying yourselves will lead to moral debauchery.

And if you can't do that, don't get in the way of those of us in category #1.
