Journal MagnetarJones's Journal: Mattel Football 5

Some of you may be old enough to remember this awesome (for the time) hand-held game from the 70's

For some reason I was thinking about it last week and how cool it would be to find a used one to buy. I didn't find a used one but while christmas shopping yesterday at Wal-Mart I found a re-release version called Mattel Classic Football 2 for $12.99. Its got some extra bells-and-whistles that the original one didn't have but appears to be a very close re-production. Looking forward to christmas so I can give it a good try.

Heres some links for reference:

  • Reclaiming your youth? Or just fumbling for an X-mas gift for yourself?

I'm not sure of your PDA status, but have you thought about A football game for your PDA? [com.com] Not exactly the same, but significantly more useful _if_ you use a pda...

Don't get me wrong, I have nostalgia for old consumer electronics of my youth too! But I get a lot of mileage out of emulators on my laptop and pda. If I had a Sega Master System I probably wouldn't even flip it on.

      Yes, to both.

No PDA (Well, my laptop is a very large PDA) I've fooled around with the emulators for Sega and Nintendo but its not the same as firing up the original.

It was cheap enough and it certainly is cheesy compared to todays games. My kids are 8 and 12 and will be getting Game Boy Advanced for christmas so I can use their older GB's or the new ones. Having kids is the best excuse for getting new toys, I feel like I'm buying the

Okay- that's what I wanted to hear. You now have my permission! ;)

Seriously, I've had to hold myself back more times than I care to remember from sinking an "insignificant" amount of hard currency into some nostalgic dead-end. (note: those new Tron toys released in 2000 do NOT count! Those are frickin' awesome.)

And despite having Grand Turismo 14,000 on the PS2, I sure did play a whole lot of "Ha
        • Speaking of Gran Turismo. I picked up a used copy of "GT-3 A-Spec" for PS-2, this game kicks ass!! I just finished the Beginner Races in Simulation mode and am moving on to Amateur and the Rally levels. I've completed all the Licensing except for Professional.
          • It sure does- I haven't even tried licensing for it yet- I'm hoping to have some time over the holidays... Home improvement has been kicking my ass in terms of sucking my free time (however those baseboards look fabulous now!)

Always draw your curves, then plot your reading.
