Journal jmh_az's Journal: So Let's See About This SCO FUD...

Well, I managed to find a distro resale outfit still offering copies of Caldera's Linux with the 2.4 kernel in it. Oh goody. I bought both the server and the workstation CD sets. I probably won't find anything of major interest, but it will be fun to take a look at what Caldera was selling, and what it might, or might not, have buried in it. Who knows what I'll find...

Interestingly, some of the reviews I read on the Caldera distro really raved about it. I dunno why. My first experience with an earlier version drove me back to Redhat quicker than a WTO protester running from an enraged riot cop. Methinks there may have been something "special" going on there, but I have no way of proving that.

Interestingly, I wasn't able to immediately locate the kernel sources RPM on the SCO/Caldera FTP site (which is still up, BTW). Found the kernel add-ons, but nothing that looked like the kernel itself. Hmmmm. Did I miss it, or did SCO pull it from the downloads area?

So, what could I possibly learn from looking at a Caldera distro with all the sources? Well, since I don't do forensic analysis for a living I don't have a solid plan, yet. I have some general ideas, though, and those should be enough to keep me amused for a bit.
