Journal HILJFanClub's Journal: 120508 (task)

Today is Tuesday the eighth day of May in 2012 A.D., the day of the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit; the day of the salvation, redemption, providence, and blessing of the almighty Lord God Most High. If not today then what other day is there?

Finally I have achieved a task which requires some real programming solution. Beginning to piece together the data set reminds me of the considerations in place when I began work on vowel for LFS. Vowel began as a group of sequential shell scripts to achieve the task and, having worked with the task for a sufficient period of time, the smaller tasks of maintaining and updating the individual component scripts evolved into a running engine, a polling sequence, to operate on the process. The specialized configurations required to fit each component into the running engine were organized in a similar table format.

So, for knockdown, I am thinking primarily in terms of wget, wc, sed, maybe awk, file redirects, and pipes. I do not have a very useful programming interface. There's no way for me to telnet (ssh) from the library and I have no system of my own. Knockdown is the sort of project that I could really get into with C. Maybe I could find some javascript availability through a wiki--if the javascript has the capability to perform math functions and parse a data stream it would be near good enough.
