Stuff that matters: detecting nukes

Some progress has been made in detecting nuclear material or other heavy metal (lead) shielding using muons, according to this AP wire story [tbo.com]. Detection takes minutes, not seconds which is a problem, but there's hope for improvement. Previous attempts to use gamma rays were not very promising, at least according to this year-old New York Times [nytimes.com] article.
