Journal sean23007's Journal: Most Hated Person on Slashdot? 6

With all the battles for the prized title of Most Loved Person on Slashdot, I have begun to wonder who is the opposite. Indeed, who holds the crown of Most Hated Person on Slashdot, and just how many people hate this poor soul? What would one have to do to get a critical mass of people to hate him? I mean, maybe you could just troll repeatedly, but that is not only boring but also would get you modded down and decrease your visibility. Can you get modded up and still get people to hate you? Does anyone have more than a dozen Freaks?

Someone should go for Most Hated. And then he should hook up with $$$$$exyGal when she finally wins Most Loved. Right...

Most Hated Person on Slashdot?

  • As far as I know, Klerck [slashdot.org] has the most freaks... 597 at last count. I think it is because he popularized page widening [slashdot.org].
    • Why would anyone do that? It seems to me that it would be just as irritating to the person doing it as it is to the people reading it.

And he is obviously a troll. I wonder who is the most hated non-troll (actual person)? (Although the actual crown would have to go to a troll if he were to have the most freaks.)
      • It really depends what you consider a troll. I, for one, post a lot of stuff, but I always try to legitimitely be funny, insightful, interesting, etc. I don't consider that trolling, but some people would (I have 106 freaks). I'd say that nearly anyone who posts a lot is going to accumulate a lot of freaks (ekrout has 187, but his account doesn't work anymore).

At the moment, CleverNickName (Wil Wheaton) has 1177 fans, but only 10 freaks. He is definitely the exception to the rule, mostly because he is a "geek-hero".

        • Exactly. Everything you say is an attempt at being legitimately funny/insightful/interesting, and so on. The important thing here is that you are trying to add to the conversations. I do not think anyone would really call you a troll. In fact, I would propose that the 106 people who dislike you enough to make you their "foe" do so not because they think you are a troll, but because they think you are a guy. I've seen a lot of people posting anonymously with derogatory statements to that effect (frankly I think the things they say are disgusting, uncalled for, and indeed, morally reprehensible).

Trolls post not to add to the conversation, but to subtract from its value. That is precisely what Klerck does, with his page-widening, and is precisely the opposite of what you do.
